Letter to the editor: Christian Nationalists trying to control all our lives - Jack Davis

This letter is so incoherent it almost defies rebuttal.

The conservative right wing of the Republican Party has won both nationally and state wide and will dominate politics for at least the next two years, if not longer. (The voters voted for Republicans and rejected the failed policies of the Democrats. Whether or not there is some sort of conservative shift remains to be seen, since the swampy Republicans are still quite numerous.)

The driving force behind this movement is to seek money and power. (Everyone who seeks elective office wants power, by definition. And, it seems the letter writer just fell off a turnip truck and hasn't noticed that for decades politicians of all persuasions have been enriching themselves.)

There is also a crusade by Christian Nationalism, where the church is the state. (He finally gets to the topic, only to toss out an undocumented accusation.)

The separation of church and state will not be supported by most Republican politicians, including Gov. Gianforte and his Christian boot lickers. (We would challenge the letter writer to identify one Republican politician that is on record in support of making the church the state.)

We are entering a period never before experienced in the history of American Democracy, going back almost 250 years. (What period is that? 

And by the way, the future has never before been experienced, by definition.)

There are many factors that got us to this point. (What point is that?)

Perhaps one of the most consequential is social media. The way news is produced and consumed has been forever altered by social media. ("Christian nationalism" did this? How?)

The American family no longer sits around the dinner table and listens to the evening news. (Christian nationalists must want to destroy the traditional family, hmm?)

Everyone gets their news in different ways and, as a result, gravitates to what they want to hear and see. (The alternative would be to only get news that others want them to see, right?)

Balanced, rational debate no longer exists. (Let's see if we follow this. Social media is a tool of Christian nationalists to destroy debate, resulting from people wanting to watch and listen to what they want.

Oh, by the way. If this letter is an example of balanced, rational debate, we must be mistaken about our definition of balanced and rational.)

There are many aspects to the conservative right-wing movement, (Are we not talking about Christian nationalism anymore?)

and it is impossible to discuss them in 300 words or less. (He hasn't even tried.)

This snippet can’t begin to list them all.

However, the new powers to be will forever change the dynamics of American government and how it impacts everyone’s lives. (Trump? We had him as president already. We have his record. We know what he did. None of what the letter writer has been worried about happened then, so why would that change?.)

The rich and powerful will become much richer and more powerful. (The rich and powerful have always gotten richer and more powerful. It happened under Obama. It happened under Biden.)

Enough will never be enough! (True. The human condition is certainly that. But were we supposed to be talking about Christian nationalism?)

Trump’s wealthy administrators and supporters will prey on everyone. Affordable housing, public education, health care and so much more will be controlled by the multi-millionaires and billionaires at the top. (This is old news, sir.)

Goodwill is a thing of the past. (Sigh. The letter writer bemoans the degradation of society and the family as if Christian nationalists are the cause [Or is it Trump? Or maybe the eeevil rich? We can't tell anymore]. However, the stated objective of the Left is to replace the system by destabilizing it, thereby making it fail so they can install socialism.) 

Christian Nationalists (Oh, finally. Back to the subject.)

will try to control all facets of our lives. (Irony Alert. It is the Left who has suppressed speech, enforced thoughtcrimes, and made it impossible to engage in dissent. The Left does not permit disagreement. The Left wants to control our buying choices, our vehicles, our house temperature, our food choices, and even our money. 

Again, did the letter writer just arrive on the scene and not know all this?)

Artificial Intelligence will truly be artificial because objective and genuine intelligence will be suppressed. (?? With a flourish the letter writer makes his final descent into irrationality.)
