Mary, the Mother of Jesus, is worse than Bernie Sanders

Found here. Reproduced here for fair use and discussion purposes. My comments in bold.
-------------------------
I have followed this fellow's blog for some time, waiting for something of substance to be posted. He's a self described liberal reverend, and routinely mocks Christians who actually believe the Bible.

So he finally posted something that sounds like he actually put a bit of thought into it.
----------------------

According to Bernie, (I note first that the author refers to Senator Sanders as Bernie, which is the way the Left attempts to humanize him. This has been going on ever since the Senator announced as a presidential candidate, most likely because of his socialist ideology. Socialists have a deserved reputation for ruthlessness, so the informal moniker softens his image.)

“the issue of wealth and income inequality is the great moral issue of our time, it is the great economic issue of our time, and it is the great political issue of our time.” In Bernie’s view, “there is something profoundly wrong when 58 percent of all new income since the Wall Street crash has gone to the top one percent.” But what is Bernie Sanders’ solution? Bernie, among other things, wants corporations and the wealthy to pay their fair share. (Left unsaid is the fact that the Obama administration has transferred trillions of dollars of taxpayer dollars in the form of bailouts, subsidies, and stimulus to these fatcat Wall Street CEOs.)

Bernie is letting the rich off easy. (Here comes a non sequitur.)

Mary sings a song with a plan that is much more severe: “God has sent the rich away empty.” (Luke 1:53)  There’s a big difference between paying your fair share (Bernie’s plan) and going away empty (God’s plan/Mary’s song). (The author equates "going away empty" with "taking all their money." But we know that God does not take away the money of the rich as a matter of course. For example, we read this in Jer. 12:1: "Why does the way of the wicked prosper? Why do all the faithless live at ease?"

So "going away empty" clearly means something else.)

Mary, the mother of Jesus, is worse than Bernie Sanders. Or, depending on your perspective, she’s better. (Let's quote the whole passage to find out what was really said:
Lk. 1:46-55: And Mary said: “My soul glorifies the Lord and my spirit rejoices in God my Savior, for he has been mindful of the humble state of his servant. From now on all generations will call me blessed, for the Mighty One has done great things for me — holy is his name.
His mercy extends to those who fear him, from generation to generation. He has performed mighty deeds with his arm; he has scattered those who are proud in their inmost thoughts. He has brought down rulers from their thrones but has lifted up the humble. He has filled the hungry with good things but has sent the rich away empty. He has helped his servant Israel, remembering to be merciful to Abraham and his descendants for ever, even as he said to our fathers.”
So we discover that the Mighty One has filled the "hungry with good things." The passage does not say He "filled the hungry with good food," although that can be part of the meaning. No, God intends to greatly bless those who are hungry: "Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled." [Matt. 5:6]

In contrast, the rich have received their reward:  “So when you give to the needy, do not announce it with trumpets, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and on the streets, to be honored by men. I tell you the truth, they have received their reward in full." [Matt. 6:2] That is, they are sent away empty [no blessings]. "

Empty means "empty [in moral content], vain, ineffective, foolish, worthless, false, unreal, pretentious, hollow." The rich young ruler [Luke 18:18-22] was sent away empty. He loved his riches more than he loved Jesus. Jesus tells us it is hard for the rich to enter the Kingdom [Matt. 19:24] They prefer to go away empty.

Now, the author is a pastor. Yet he doesn't know this? I suppose his "liberal" ideology is preferable over the biblical teaching.)

Ever heard Joel Osteen preach “God has sent the rich away empty”?

Ever heard Billy Graham or Franklin Graham preach “God has sent the rich away empty”?

Ever heard any of the preachers at the popular megachurches preach “God has sent the rich away empty”?

Not even Bernie Sanders is sending the rich away empty. (Because only God can send people away without blessing.)
