Medicaid makes good health possible - Kaiser Permanente

Found here. Our comments in bold.
---------------------------

It's no surprise that an "about us" page is completely self-serving. But it's more than telling people who they are. We suspect that Kaiser Permanente has a substantial financial stake in providing Medicaid coverage, and they're worried that Trump is going to fix the program, which for them represents the loss of a substantial revenue stream.

Self serving is an apt description, because they also trumpet their DEI program, going so far as to count up the number of diverse employees by category.

Astounding.

Kaiser Permanente isn't about providing care or helping people. They are about revenue, nothing more.
-----------------------

Medicaid gives millions of Americans access to the front door of the health care system — keeping them healthy and serving those with acute care needs. (Well, actually, Medicaid funds the cost of obtaining care. Anyone can walk into a hospital and get care. Who pays for it, however, is a different matter.)

For almost 60 years, Medicaid has provided health insurance and access to care for children, people in nursing homes, and people with disabilities.

Medicaid is a joint federal and state program that helps cover medical costs for people with low incomes and people with disabilities. Fourteen million Americans living in rural areas and 10 million Americans under the age of 65 who have disabilities have Medicaid.

Medicaid covers prenatal care, primary care, community-based preventive care, hospital services, and mental health care. It is the largest payer for nursing home care, and provides coverage and care for nearly 60% of children in the U.S.

With Medicaid, people can keep building their futures and embracing life’s most important moments. (With someone else forced to pay for their medical expenses, they can keep on partying...)

A community’s strength depends on its access to care

Medicaid is critical to the stability of providers and hospitals — especially at a time when almost 700 rural hospitals are at risk of closing. (If these hospitals are at risk of closing WITH Medicaid, then how is Medicaid successfully keeping rural hospitals open?)

The program helps support the financial security of community health centers and hospitals and improves the care they offer, including preventive care, mental health services, and long-term nursing home care.

With access to care, parents can be there for their children, older adults can have more time with their families, and health care providers and facilities can keep their doors open.

Millions of Americans can access the care they need because of Medicaid

At Kaiser Permanente, we care for 1.5 million people who are insured through Medicaid. (Kaiser Permanente doesn't care for 1.5 million people, it provides coverage for 1.5 million people. There's no care involved, it's simply a business transaction.)

We take a whole-person care approach to providing preventive care and addressing their ongoing care needs.

After all, that's what they and every business are in business to do. They have a substantial revenue stream in their connection to Medicaid. That's the purpose of this article, to keep the money coming in.)

Changes to Medicaid could have ripple effects

As Congress considers policy changes, we urge lawmakers to pursue responsible solutions that preserve needed care for our communities, including:
  • Retaining the current share of federal funding for Medicaid
  • Continuing coverage for adults with low incomes who are receiving care and coverage from Medicaid expansion
  • Supporting a whole-person care approach: addressing people’s physical, mental, and social health needs
  • Supporting Medicaid payment methodologies that account for the full range of health plan and provider models
