Letter to the editor: Far right's brand of Christianity is unrecognizable - by Bonnie McGowan

Found here. Our comments in bold.
------------------------

This is a typical leftist taking on Bible-beleiving Christians, Christianity, and conservatives. Needless to say, she gets very little correct. But the most egregious thing is her smug judgment of other Christians while simultaneously quoting the "judge not" verse.
--------------------
I recently read a New York Times article (Our first "tell" that the letter writer is far left. She reads the New York Times.)

discussing the Montana Republican Convention of last summer and the shift of that party to the far end known as the “Christian” right. (Our second "tell." She believes what they write.)

I have been a Christian for 74 years, educated in Christian schools for 14 years where studying the life and teachings of Jesus was a daily event. (She flashes her credentials. But in only a couple of sentences from now, she will tell us that Jesus was never boastful. Hmmm.)

I do not even remotely recognize the Republican far right's brand of Christianity. (Term-switching. She first mentioned the “Christian” right, now she's talking about the political far right.

Really, if she was truly interested in learning what these Christians believe, she might simply sit down with one and have a conversation.)

A Christian bases their life in the teachings of the New Testament. Jesus was never boastful, his ministry was based on love, and he asked his followers to love God, love your neighbor and love yourself, simple words but admittedly a tall order. (Apparently this all that Jesus ever taught.)

He did not ask his followers to establish a Christian police force, judge or jury on His behalf, (What the means is anyone's guess.)

in fact, He said, “Judge not lest you be judged” and “Let he who has not sinned cast the first stone”. (Yep, judge those dirty far right Christians... )

With Jesus' teachings in mind I must admit I am appalled by the “Christian" right's treatment of the LGBQT community, as well as other minority groups, who only request the same freedoms as everyone else and then to be left alone. ("Left alone?" She really believes this? Astounding, given how the gay agenda has been forced down our throats, with silencing of dissent and people losing their jobs if they don't comply. And just try to disagree with CRT. You will be called every name in the book by these Tolerant Ones.

In actual fact, the only ones being tolerant are Christians and conservatives.)

Where is their love? The far right ideology has attracted all types of hate groups such as the Proud Boys, Oath Keepers, White Supremacists (someone tell them Jesus was not a white man), and others. (Now she passes judgment on these political groups, and lumps them together as if they were a part of Christianity.)

Republican friends, where is the party of Marc Racicot and other stellar Republican leaders? Please take your party back from those angry individuals whose loud proclamations have defiled it in the guise of Christianity. (She, a leftist, is so concerned about Republicans. She just wants to help, right? That's what political opponents do, help the other side beat her side, correct?

We would suggest she get her own party back from the far left tyrants and haters, the racists and the anti Semites. )

A refrain from a song we frequently sing in church comes to mind: “And they’ll know we are Christians by our love by our love, yes they will know we are Christians by our love.” (Wow. With a final flourish she completely muffs it. This song is about Christian unity, based on Jesus' admonition:

Jn. 13:33-35 “My children, I will be with you only a little longer. You will look for me, and just as I told the Jews, so I tell you now: Where I am going, you cannot come. 34 A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. 35 By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.”

Now, we certainly are to love our enemies, but this ain't that. So this woman purports to correct errant Christians, but can't get basic facts right.)
