Deconstructing the Heresy of Dominion Theology - by Rev. Anthony Wade

Found here. Our comments in bold.
------------------------

It has been some time since we have had the opportunity to comment on Rev. Wade. He's back, and little has changed. He remains unable to edify or encourage the brethren. He seems unaware of any Scriptures that contradict his viewpoint. And, he hardly manages to quote or even reference the Bible as he goes on the warpath against someone named Barry Maracle.

We do not intend to defend Mr. Maracle or dominionism, we are simply interested in Rev. Wade's presentation.
------------------

Then God said, "Let us make man in our image, after our likeness. And let them have dominion over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the heavens and over the livestock and over all the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth." - Genesis 1:26 (ESV)

One of the hallmarks of New Apostolic Reformation (NAR) teaching is dominionism. Many who openly reject the NAR cannot see how they too have fallen for the near cult-like obsession with everything America. This is not be confused with patriotism, which is separate from the church. Dominionism on the other hand mixes the holy with the profane. It takes one of the carnal, evil political parties (or candidates) and confers righteousness upon them as "God's choice." By default, anything against this position is deemed as evil. The dominionist fails to see the inherent evil in all things of this world. They believe that Christians, or the church, are to literally take dominion of the world in advance of Christ's second coming. Many actually believe Christ cannot return until we do so. This is obvious heresy and glorifies the creation, this earth, over the Creator, God. They believe that the dominion of this world is accomplished by conquering seven cultural mountains that they have created, the most prominent of these being government. Hence the unbiblical fixation with politics. (Rev. Wade makes a dozen undocumented, unreferenced, unexplained claims. Some may be true, others may be partly true, and still others may be false. But since Rev. Wade hasn't bothered to tell us where he gets his information for these claims, we shall not bother to deal with them.)

The above link is from a recent story by Barry Maracle, a Charismatic personality and outlines the absolutely bonkers theology from this group. Let us discern and learn, reasoning through this screed.

"We have been redeemed, and our dominion over all of creation has been redeemed as well. "Redeemed" means "to purchase back under threat." From the very beginning, God told us to take dominion (see Gen. 1:26). He never rescinded that command. God wants His family to become more fruitful, outweigh the enemy and go forth and take dominion. Biblical dominion doesn't refer to domination of people. Biblical dominion has to do with the liberation of people.

Jesus taught us to pray in Luke 11:2, where He said, "When you pray, say: Our Father, who is in heaven, hallowed be Your name. Your kingdom come; Your will be done on earth, as it is in heaven." Dominion looks like the manifestation of the kingdom of God on the earth. The kingdom of God is made up of righteousness, peace, joy, grace and truth, solidly founded on faith, hope and love.' - Barry Maracle

I have included the entire referenced verse from Genesis as the key verse because it is vital to understand how this group goes so wrong from their fundamental beliefs onward. (Actually, the entire relevant passage is longer. Ge. 1:26-28:
Then God said, “Let us make man in our image, in our likeness, and let them rule over the fish of the sea and the birds of the air, over the livestock, over all the earth, and over all the creatures that move along the ground.”
27 So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them. 28 God blessed them and said to them, “Be fruitful and increase in number; fill the earth and subdue it. Rule over the fish of the sea and the birds of the air and over every living creature that moves on the ground.”
"The earth" is אֶרֶץ (erets), 3. a. Ground, surface of ground
"Rule over" is רָדָה (radah), to have dominion, rule, dominate
"Subdue" is כָּבַשׁ (kabash) to subdue, bring into bondage, 3 subdue, dominate, the earth...

So God first states his intent, but the English translators add "let us" and "let them." Our rough literal translation is, "God spoke, 'We do make Adam like us in dominion to rule the surface of the ground...'")

Our redemption has to do with our state as sinners before a holy God. It has absolutely nothing to do with Genesis 1:26 but even still they fail to grasp what that verse even means. We see from the key verses that God gives dominion to man over the fish of the sea, birds of the heavens, livestock, over all the earth, and every creeping thing that creeps on the earth. That is the order. The dominionist plucks out the sole verse fragment that says "over all the earth" and ignores the surrounding context to make it sound as if God wants the believer to subdue modern culture instead of spreading the Gospel to the lost. (We cannot see anywhere in these Genesis verses any sort of command regarding the lost. If Rev. Wade wants to complain about someone seeing something in these verses that is not there, perhaps he ought to consider his own fallibilities. Indeed, Adam and Eve haven't even sinned yet, so there are no lost and there is no Gospel. God said everything was "very good" [Gen. 1:31])

Genesis 1:26 is also not a command. Read the key verse again. God is stating fact, not uttering command. The liberation of the lost is the result of the Gospel, not taking dominion. (Again Rev. Wade asserts something about the lost, absent any reference to such a thing in these verses.

We would in this instance agree with Rev. Wade, that our status in dominion is a statement of position, not something we are to attain. Unfortunately for Rev. Wade, the implications of this would suggest that if our status is one of dominion, then we ought to act in accordance with this and exercise this dominion as we have been commanded.)

We see here the influence of Bethel that routinely preaches the nonsense about bringing the kingdom to earth as the mandate for Christians. The Lord's prayer is our prayer to Him. (Let's quote it. Mt. 6:9-10:
This, then, is how you should pray: “Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name, 10 your kingdom come, your will be done on earth as it is in heaven..."
That we revere His name. (No, it does not mention "we" here, it is simply that his name be hallowed. Rev. Wade cannot even explain simple statements, yet he presumes to instruct us on the vaguely implied evil of the NAR.)

That we seek to do His will on earth just as if we were in heaven. (No, it does not say anything about "we" here either. Nor does it say anything about what we would do "as if we were in heaven." Again, Jesus makes a simple statement.

Remember this is the prayer Jesus told us to pray. "Your kingdom come/your will be done" is the subject, connecting to "on earth as it is in heaven." To rephrase, "Your kingdom come on earth as it is in heaven. Likewise, Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven."

This means this is to be our prayer for the what is in heaven to also be on the earth. Two things, His kingdom and his will.

But for some reason Rev. Wade wants to insert "we" into the equation.)

It is not a prayer for dominion over the earth; not even close. (What would be the purpose of His kingdom on earth if it is not for dominion? Not the church's dominion, but His dominion.)

The object is to preach the Gospel, through which one is saved out from this world.

"The Lord laid it on my heart in late February of 2020 that His ekklesia is about to awaken, arise, advance and abound. According to Matthew 16:18, Jesus says that He is going to build His church--His family, the ekklesia--and the gates of hell will not overcome it. The word ekklesia is the Greek word that means "to be called out to rule and reign." We are to take dominion over our own promised lands, and God is giving us a spirit of dominion this year.

So it's time for you, the ekklesia, to awaken, arise, advance and abound." - Barry Maracle

Perhaps the second greatest recurring false theology for dominionists, after not understanding Genesis, is not understanding what ekklesia means. While ekklesia does mean on some level a called-out group, there is nothing in the definition to support the notion of ruling and reigning. This is straight up NAR dominionism. I like the summary of this issue from the popular Got Questions website: (Rev. Wade is finally able to quote an actual source. Unfortunately, it is not the Bible.)

It is important that the church today understand the definition of ekklesia. The church needs to see itself as being "called out" by God. If the church wants to make a difference in the world, it must be different from the world. Salt is different from the food it flavors. God has called the church to be separate from sin (1Peter 1:16), to embrace fellowship with other believers (Acts 2:42), and to be a light to the world (Matthew 5:14). God has graciously called us unto Himself: "'Come out from them and be separate,' says the Lord. 'Touch no unclean thing, and I will receive you'" (2Corinthians 6:17). - Got Questions?

Yes! Salt is different from the food it flavors! The separating out has nothing to do with ruling the world. (Perhaps the Reverend would tell us what these verses mean:
Ep. 2:6 And God raised us up with Christ and seated us with him in the heavenly realms in Christ Jesus...
2Ti. 2:11-12 Here is a trustworthy saying: If we died with him, we will also live with him; 12 if we endure, we will also reign with him.
1Pe. 2:9 But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people belonging to God, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light.
Re. 5:10 You have made them to be a kingdom and priests to serve our God, and they will reign on the earth.
Re. 20:6 Blessed and holy are those who have part in the first resurrection. The second death has no power over them, but they will be priests of God and of Christ and will reign with him for a thousand years.
Of course, each of these references must be contextualized. But the point is, the Bible is not silent regarding the dominion of Christians on the earth. It is true, in some fashion. How that plays out is not addressed by Rev. Wade. In fact, it simply hasn't even occurred to him.)
