We should note that our intent is not to defend Eddie Hyatt. We are here to examine the author's claims and presentation.

In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of our trespasses, according to the riches of his grace, which he lavished upon us, in all wisdom and insight making known to us the mystery of his will, according to his purpose, which he set forth in Christ as a plan for the fullness of time, to unite all things in him, things in heaven and things on earth. -- Ephesians 1:7-10 (ESV)

It does not take faith to believe self-delusion. I say this as a backdrop to a short article linked above which highlights this process brilliantly, along with some Class-A bible mangling from Eddie Hyatt. Now, Eddie usually only writes in favor of Christo-feminism or eviscerating American history to pretend we were once under covenant with God, as do most NAR Dominionists. Today's departure from his regular heresies is a brief foray into financial matters. So buckle up and get your bible out. (Yes, "get your Bible out," but no need to open it. The author will not quote any Scripture or explain the Bible at all.)
'During a time of prayer early Tuesday morning, I was reminded of an encounter with the Lord from many years ago, and I knew I was supposed to share it. I knew that God wanted to encourage His people to expect great blessings to come our way--blessings we have not earned. It was a quiet Sunday morning in September of 1991 on the campus of Zion Bible Institute in Barrington, Rhode Island. Students and staff had gone off campus to attend various church services. The campus seemed especially calm and serene that morning, and I decided to take advantage of the tranquil situation by going to the chapel and spending time in prayer. As I lied on the floor, I presented to God my concern about finances. Sue and I had accepted an offer to teach and write at Zion and had just made the move from Tulsa, Oklahoma, the previous month. Being a missionary school, Zion paid us $62.50 each per week and provided housing on campus. We were expected to believe God for everything else we would need. We had been there about a month and it had become obvious that $125 per week did not cover the car payment, car insurance, food, toiletries, clothes and all the necessities of a normal life. It was a stressful situation. But as I lied on the floor lifting my concern to the Lord, the numbers "8/9 and 9/8" were strongly impressed on my mind. I reached for my Bible and noted that it was lying open at 2 Corinthians. I then turned and read 8:9, which says,
"For you know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that though He was rich, yet for your sakes He became poor, that through His poverty you might be rich" (2 Cor. 8:9).
I then turned to 9:8 and read,
"And God is able to make all grace abound toward you, so that you, always having enough of everything, may abound to every good work" (2 Cor. 9:8).
The parallels in the two passages were immediately obvious. Both speak of God's abundant financial provision for His people and both speak of His provision flowing from His grace. It is not something earned. It is blessing flowing from His marvelous grace. I knew God was speaking to me and decided to write the date in the margin of my Bible. I was astounded as I wrote, "9-8-91."' -- Eddie Hyatt

Of course there are a myriad of possible sources for why these numbers came to young Mr. Hyatt's mind. He could have been thinking about his 89 year old grandmother. He could have been thinking about 98 ways to try and prove women should preach. It could have been bad pizza from the night before. Here is one that should be considered -- it could have been the devil. You see what pops into our minds comes from our hearts and the bible assures us that nothing is as wickedly deceitful as the human heart. (So the author connects things in our minds to things from our hearts, and concludes that because our hearts are wicked the things in our minds are wicked.
He supplies no verse for this. In fact, his assertion is quite false:
Lk. 6:45 The good man brings good things out of the good stored up in his heart, and the evil man brings evil things out of the evil stored up in his heart. For out of the overflow of his heart his mouth speaks.
It is quite clear from this verse that depending on the state of the heart, either good or evil can flow from it.
The verse the author vaguely references is Jeremiah 17:9, though he does not actually quote it. Rather, he alludes to it, rips it completely out of context, then draws a completely unbiblical conclusion.

So, we will quote the actual verse, as well as other verses which document our case. You see, when we get out our Bibles we actually open them and read them.
Je. 17:9-10 The heart is deceitful above all things and beyond cure. Who can understand it? 10 I the LORD search the heart and examine the mind, to reward a man according to his conduct, according to what his deeds deserve.
Whose heart is deceitful? We need to read back a few verses:
Je. 17:5 This is what the LORD says: “Cursed is the one who trusts in man, who depends on flesh for his strength and whose heart turns away from the LORD."
So the person who turns away from the LORD and trusts his flesh [sin nature] has a deceitful heart.
This is the uncircumcised heart. This is the natural man, born into sin and condemned to death. The natural man with an uncircumcised heart resists the Holy Spirit:
This is the uncircumcised heart. This is the natural man, born into sin and condemned to death. The natural man with an uncircumcised heart resists the Holy Spirit:
Ac. 7:51 “You stiff-necked people, with uncircumcised hearts and ears! You are just like your fathers: You always resist the Holy Spirit!"
The wicked heart is a heart that is unregenerate, untouched by the Holy Spirit, fleshly and sinful. The author assumes this to be a permanent condition, but we know this isn't true. God's intent is to give us new hearts:
De. 30:6 The LORD your God will circumcise your hearts and the hearts of your descendants, so that you may love him with all your heart and with all your soul, and live.
Ez. 36:26 I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit in you; I will remove from you your heart of stone and give you a heart of flesh.
This promise is a messianic prophecy. God makes a promise about the deceitful heart: He's going to replace it! The old heart, the sinful nature, the disobedient and stiff necked-ness, will be done away with.
The writer of Hebrews agrees, and applies this promise of a new, circumcised heart to us:
He. 8:10 This is the covenant I will make with the house of Israel after that time, declares the Lord. I will put my laws in their minds and write them on their hearts. I will be their God, and they will be my people. And this indeed is what has happened, by the power of the Holy Spirit:
Ro. 2:29 No, a man is a Jew if he is one inwardly; and circumcision is circumcision of the heart, by the Spirit, not by the written code. Such a man’s praise is not from men, but from God.
2Co. 3:15-16 Even to this day when Moses is read, a veil covers their hearts. 16 But whenever anyone turns to the Lord, the veil is taken away.
The Cross makes us born again. It is there we become new men, and the old has passed away.
2Co. 5:17 Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has gone, the new has come!
The new heart is where the Spirit of the Lord dwells:
2Co. 1:21-22 Now it is God who makes both us and you stand firm in Christ. He anointed us, 22 set his seal of ownership on us, and put his Spirit in our hearts as a deposit, guaranteeing what is to come.
Ga. 4:6-6 Because you are sons, God sent the Spirit of his Son into our hearts, the Spirit who calls out, “Abba, Father.” 7 So you are no longer a slave, but a son; and since you are a son, God has made you also an heir. It's by this indwelling presence that we know His glory:
2Co. 4:6 For God, who said, “Let light shine out of darkness,” [Gen. 1:3] made his light shine in our hearts to give us the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Christ.
It's by this indwelling presence that we bear fruit:
Lk. 8:15 But the seed on good soil stands for those with a noble and good heart, who hear the word, retain it, and by persevering produce a crop.
Our hearts are no longer wicked if the Holy Spirit dwells there. This is the miraculous work of the new birth, effected by the saving work of Jesus.
One other thing. The author has previously claimed that the OT promises were to Israel, not us. But now he is quite happy to take an OT verse and apply it to us. Unfortunately, it is misapplied.
We have taken the time to extensively address the author's casual and errant statement to show the reader that God's purpose for us is to not have deceitful hearts.
We are surprised the author does not understand this.)
