Thoughts from a 90 year old saintly woman

I have known Jeanette for about 15 years, ever since I came to this church. She had been there for years already. She is known in the church for her memorization of Scripture. She loves to play cards with friends, and is the main door greeter for Sunday mornings, despite her increasing difficulty to stand.

It seems we are inevitably attracted to the attractive, articulate, clever, and charismatic personalities. Christians seem to gravitate to the talented and the outgoing. But one lesson I have learned from the Lord is to never underestimate or minimize the background people in the church. The awkward, the elderly, the ignored, the introverts, the weird ones, the rejects and the cast offs. No one really pays attention to them.

Like Jeanette.

There is a gold mine of wisdom, insight, and perspective in these people. But few of them have opportunity or outlet. Yet they remain faithful, year after year. So, I am so blessed that Jeanette chose to write down her thoughts and asked me to share them on my blog. I hope you are blessed as well.
----------------------

* Proverbs 9:1 Wisdom has built her house; she has hewn out its seven pillars.

7 Spirits of God: Wisdom, understanding, counsel, the Holy Spirit, might, knowledge, and reverence.

Personal note: You share your faith when you pray with someone.

* Luke 22:32 But I have prayed for you, Simon, that your faith may not fail. And when you have turned back, strengthen your brothers.

Peter denied, Jesus prayed. So, how are you praying for me, Jesus? Romans 8:26 ...the Spirit himself
intercedes for us with groans that words cannot express.

* Matthew 22:37-38 Jesus replied: “`Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’ [Deut. 6:5] 38 This is the first and greatest commandment.

If we love Him we will be obedient, not through duty.

* How can I become more Christ-like? Praying, studying the Bible, and practicing the virtues of Galatians 5:22-23:

But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law.

And:

2 Peter 1:5-7 For this very reason, make every effort to add to your faith goodness; and to goodness, knowledge; 6 and to knowledge, self-control; and to self-control, perseverance; and to perseverance, godliness; 7 and to godliness, brotherly kindness; and to brotherly kindness, love.

Memorizing Scripture to plant it deep in the heart.

* Philippians 4:19 And my God will meet all your needs according to his  glorious riches in Christ Jesus.

Includes healing.

Understanding more every day, one step at a time.

* Luke 13:6-9Then he told this parable: “A man had a fig-tree, planted in his vineyard, and he went to look for fruit on it, but did not find any. 7 So he said to the man who took care of the vineyard, `For three years now I’ve been coming to look for fruit on this figtree and haven’t found any. Cut it down! Why should it use up the soil?’ 8 “`Sir,’ the man replied, `leave it alone for one more year, and I’ll dig round it and fertilize it. 9 If it bears fruit next year, fine! If not, then cut it down.’“

Fertilize by prayer, study, depending on God, and we will be fruitful in the kingdom of God.

* Lean into His everlasting arms. Love, support, and holding close.

Deuteronomy 33:27 The eternal God is your refuge, and underneath are the everlasting arms. He will drive out your enemy before you, saying, `Destroy him!’

Psalms 91:1 He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty.

Dwell, abide, be still, rest, listen and hear.

* Psalm 56:13 For you have delivered me from death and my feet from stumbling, that I may walk before God in the light of life.

Slow down and enjoy every moment with your ever-present, everlasting, and ever-loving God. I am realizing more and more how much our ever-present God is with us, 24/7, every second of our lives.

* "Seek My face, words, and thoughts in my love letter to you.

"I am God and there is no one else. I take care of everything in your life.

"See all the beauty all around you in all My creation."
