Universal reconciliation: conversation with a Faceborg friend

Posted by a Faceborg friend:

THE GOSPEL is not universalism based on ignoring sin — it’s universal reconciliation based on the finished work of Christ.

Me: A distinction without a difference, isn't it?

Friend: Universal reconciliation does not "ignore" sin. Rather, it confronts sin through the finished work of the cross; in that He made Him who knew no sin to BE sin that we might become the righteousness of God in Him! (Christ) 2 Corinthians 5:21

Me: But if everyone gets reconciled, sin is irrelevant since the result is is the same either way.

Friend: Because somebody's got to BURN!!! But that's NOT the heart of God, nor is it His will! 2 Peter 3:9 This isn't some sick game where some get to win, and the rest have to lose. Do a word study on the Greek word "pas" (all).

. . . and by the way, sin IS irrelevant, except for those Evangelicals who worship sin and hell more than they do the redemptive heart of the Trinity!!!

That's why the Finished work, on the cross is Good News!!!!!

Me: You brought up sin, not me. If sin is irrelevant, so is the cross.

Friend: The cross has made sin irrelevant!

Me: The cross is irrelevant if sin is irrelevant. Everyone is saved no matter their situation. Therefore redemption is irrelevant, holy living irrelevant, the life we live is meaningless, and God isn't holy. There is no gospel, and existence itself is meaningless. Universal salvation makes our discussion meaningless.

Friend: The only "situation" that is relevant is the grace of God! Not faith, not redemption, not even the cross, and most certainly NOT holy living, for all of our righteousness is like menstrual cloths! Adding all of those things equates to salvation by works, and we might as well follow in the steps of the judaizers and cut the whole thing off!
Through His finished work of the cross, Jesus defeated the power of sin and death. THAT is what makes sin irrelevant! It no longer has any power over us. That is if you believe those verses.
II Corinthians 5:14-15, 21 NKJV
[14] For the love of Christ compels us, because we judge thus: that if One died for all, then all died; [15] and He died for all, that those who live should live no longer for themselves, but for Him who died for them and rose again.
[21] For He made Him who knew no sin to be sin for us, that we might become the righteousness of God in Him.
Jesus became sin, and died. This sin is DEAD! And thus is irrelevant. Furthermore, Paul declares that if "One (Jesus) died for all, then all died." Guess what, all (pas) means all! No one is excluded!!!

Me: You seem confused. The cross isn't relevant but the finished work of the cross is?
Holy living: " that those who live should live no longer for themselves."
Jesus did not become sin.
