Jesus was a radical....

This was posted by a FB friend.

Oviously the intent is to paint Jesus as a liberal. Let's look at where this goes wrong.

As is typical for the Left, they attempt to isolate Jesus from the rest of the Bible in order to suggest that they have much in common with Him. However, Jesus is woven throughout the Bible. In the O.T. He was known as the Word of God, so God speaking in the O.T. is Jesus. All the things the Left doesn't like about God is manifested in the person of Jesus.

Since the Left is making claims about what Jesus believed and taught, I shall quote His own words as recorded in the Gospels. I will not quote the O.T. or the epistles, since the Left's caricature of Jesus comes from their flawed understanding of His teaching, which is contained in the Gospel narratives.

I will note, however, that Jesus frequently quoted the O.T., affirming its applicability.

Our comments are found after each phrase.

Jesus was a radical
(Yes, agreed, but Jesus never had a political agenda, so interpreting his ministry via politics is unjustifiable. Unfortunately for the Left, Jesus' harshest words were reserved for the political power of the day, the Pharisees.)

non-violent revolutionary
(Jn. 2:14-16  In the temple courts he found men selling cattle, sheep and doves, and others sitting at tables exchanging money. So he made a whip out of cords, and drove all from the temple area, both sheep and cattle; he scattered the coins of the money-changers and overturned their tables. To those who sold doves he said, “Get these out of here! How dare you turn my Father’s house into a market!”
Mt. 11:12 "From the days of John the Baptist until now, the kingdom of heaven has been forcefully advancing, and forceful men lay hold of it.")

who hung around lepers hookers and crooks;
(Mt. 9:11-13 When the Pharisees saw this, they asked his disciples, “Why does your teacher eat with tax collectors and `sinners’?” On hearing this, Jesus said, “It is not the healthy who need a doctor, but the sick. But go and learn what this means: `I desire mercy, not sacrifice.’ [Hosea 6:6] For I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners.”)

wasn't English and never spoke English;
(Um, duh.)

was anti-wealth
(Mt. 20:14-15 "Take your pay and go. I want to give the man who was hired last the same as I gave you. Don’t I have the right to do what I want with my own money?”
Mk. 14:5-7 "It could have been sold for more than a year’s wages and the money given to the poor." And they rebuked her harshly. “Leave her alone,” said Jesus. “Why are you bothering her? She has done a beautiful thing to me. The poor you will always have with you, and you can help them any time you want. But you will not always have me.")

and anti-death penalty
(Mt. 15:2-4 “Why do your disciples break the tradition of the elders? They don’t wash their hands before they eat!” Jesus replied, “And why do you break the command of God for the sake of your tradition? For God said, `Honor your father and mother’ [Exodus 20:12; Deut. 5:16] and `Anyone who curses his father or mother must be put to death.’" [Exodus 21:17; Lev. 20:9])

anti public prayer (M 6:5);
(Mt. 19:13 Then little children were brought to Jesus for him to place his hands on them and pray for them.
Lk. 3:21 When all the people were being baptized, Jesus was baptized too. And as he was praying, heaven was opened...)

but was never anti-gay,
(Mt. 15:19-20 "For out of the heart come evil thoughts, murder, adultery, sexual immorality, theft, false testimony, slander. These are what make a man `unclean’; but eating with unwashed hands does not make him `unclean’.”
Mt. 19:17-18 “Why do you ask me about what is good?” Jesus replied. “There is only One who is good. If you want to enter life, obey the commandments.” “Which ones?” the man inquired. Jesus replied, “`Do not murder, do not commit adultery, do not steal, do not give false testimony...
Mk. 7:21-23 "For from within, out of men’s hearts, come evil thoughts, sexual immorality, theft, murder, adultery, greed, malice, deceit, lewdness, envy, slander, arrogance and folly. All these evils come from inside and make a man `unclean’.”)

never mentioned abortion or birth control;
(Duh again. The Left expects Jesus to mention their pet issues, and because He doesn't, they argue from silence? But also, see Mt. 15:2-4 where Jesus reaffirms the ten commandments.)

never called the poor lazy;
(Mt. 25:26 “His master replied, `You wicked, lazy servant! So you knew that I harvest where I have not sown and gather where I have not scattered seed?'")

never justified torture;
(Mt. 13:41-42: "The Son of Man will send out his angels, and they will weed out of his kingdom everything that causes sin and all who do evil. They will throw them into the fiery furnace, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth."
Mt. 23:33 “You snakes! You brood of vipers! How will you escape being condemned to hell?"
Mk. 16:16 "Whoever believes and is baptized will be saved, but whoever does not believe will be condemned."
Jn. 3:18 "Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe stands condemned already because he has not believed in the name of God’s one and only Son."
Jn. 5:27-29 "And he has given him authority to judge because he is the Son of Man. Do not be amazed at this, for a time is coming when all who are in their graves will hear his voice and come out — those who have done good will rise to live, and those who have done evil will rise to be condemned.")

never fought tax cuts for the wealthiest Nazerenes;
(Lk. 3:12-13 Tax collectors also came to be baptized. “Teacher,” they asked, “what should we do?” “Don’t collect any more than you are required to,” he told them.)

never asked a leper for a copay;
(Inane, especially since ACA has a $6000+ out-of-pocket per person cost.)

and was a long-haired brown-skinned homeless community organizing
(Wow, just like the Light-Bringer, Obama! Actually, Jesus didn't do any community organizing, and specifically resisted the idea that he had come to overthrow the Roman occupation. He proclaimed His coming kingdom, and people gravitated to him.)

anti-slut-shaming middle eastern Jew.
(Jn. 8:10-11 Jesus straightened up and asked her, “Woman, where are they? Has no-one condemned you?” “No-one, sir,” she said. “Then neither do I condemn you,” Jesus declared. “Go now and leave your life of sin.”)
