The word of God is living - By Elizabeth Prata

Found here. Our comments in bold.
------------------

Ms. Prata is operating under a misunderstanding, that the word is the Bible. It isn't. The word is the things God speaks, not what is written down.

"Word" is logos, a word, being the expression of a thought; a saying. 3056 /lógos ("word") is preeminently used of Christ (Jn 1:1), expressing the thoughts of the Father through the Spirit.

This is certainly not the Bible. The Greek word used to describe the Bible would be graphḗ – properly, writing. 1124 (graphḗ) is used 51 times in the NT – always of holy Scripture, i.e. the inspired, inerrant writings of the Bible (the 66 books of Scripture, 39 in Hebrew, 27 in Greek.

While this may be picking nits, such a misunderstanding can lead to errant doctrines. In Ms. Prata's case this misunderstanding contributes to her false belief that God has ceased speaking to Christians.

Lastly, we note Ms. Prata is willing to quote the subject Scripture, but only one of her several proof Scriptures. We will see why.

We must deem this Bad Bible Teaching.
------------------------------

To the Christian, the word of God is like a green lawn, undulating, rolling out blade after blade of perfectly manicured grass, thriving and living, each blade a perfect truth to be discovered, examined, applied, praised. (The word... the things God says, right?)

(***)

But ... the word of God is living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing to the division of soul and of spirit, of joints and of marrow, and discerning the thoughts and intentions of the heart. (Hebrews 4:12). (Logos, not graphḗThis verse is not referring to the Bible.)

He was in the assembly in the wilderness with the angel who spoke to him on Mount Sinai, and with our fathers. And he received living words to pass on to us. (Acts 7:38). ("Words" is this verse is logion, the words or utterances of God. Those words are living. The Bible is not living.)

For you have been born again, not of perishable seed, but of imperishable, through the living and enduring word of God. (1 Peter 1:23)
(Let's quote:
1Pe. 1:23 For you have been born again, not of perishable seed, but of imperishable, through the living and enduring word of God.
This is also logos, not the Bible. The Bible did not cause our new life, His living and enduring word [logos] did.)

And not only is the word living, it is active. It is like fire, and it smashes rock. (Jeremiah 23:29). (Let's quote:
Je. 23:29 “Is not my word like fire,” declares the LORD, “and like a hammer that breaks a rock in pieces?
Dabar, speech, word, not Scripture.

Further, Ms. Prata ignores the context of this verse. The previous verse speaks of prophets faithfully speaking His word. So His word, faithfully spoken by a prophet, is like a hammer.

This is not the Bible.)

It demolishes strongholds. (2 Corinthians 10:4). (Again, let's quote it:
2Co. 10:4 The weapons we fight with are not the weapons of the world. On the contrary, they have divine power to demolish strongholds.
This verse is not even about the Bible.)

It separates joints and marrow. (Hebrews 4:12). It makes the heart burn within us. (Luke 24:32). (laleó, I speak, say; coupled with graphḗ.

Quoting:
Lk. 24:32 They asked each other, “Were not our hearts burning within us while he talked with us on the road and opened the Scriptures to us?”
The Lord's spoken words opened the Scriptures to them. His spoken words caused the burning in their hearts.)

The word of God is active. It does not die, for Jesus who is the Word cannot die. (Waaaait. Everything Ms. Prata has written up to this point is that the "word" is the Bible. But now Jesus is the word? She completely changes the parameters but just breezes on by without further comment.)

The word never expires. There are no dead spots in the Bible. (??? Back to the Bible...)

It is alive and at work in the hearts and minds of all who hear it, to the good of those who love Him and to either the conversion of those who as yet hate Him but will love Him after repentance, or hardening the hearts of those who hear him (Hebrews 3:15). ("Hear him?" Now we're back to His actual speaking.)

But no part of it is dead, no part of it doesn't speak truth to this very day. ("It?" Back to the Bible again. Is Ms. Prata even aware of this constant concept-swapping?)
