Um, no. Treason:
Whoever, owing allegiance to the United States, levies war against them or adheres to their enemies, giving them aid and comfort within the United States or elsewhere, is guilty of treason and shall suffer death, or shall be imprisoned not less than five years and fined under this title but not less than $10,000; and shall be incapable of holding any office under the United States. And from the Constitution itself:
Article III, Section. 3.
Treason against the United States, shall consist only in levying War against them, or in adhering to their Enemies, giving them Aid and Comfort.
It's foolishness like this that reinforces the idea that the Left is anti-intellectual. No thinking person would call disrespect treason. In fact, America was founded on the idea of holding their leaders accountable. Quintessentially, free speech is political speech, and no public official should be immune from criticism or dissent.
It doesn't matter if the dissent is accurate, respectful, or reasonable. Elected leaders are held accountable by freedom principles like speech. Squelching speech is fundamentally tyrannical.
Beyond that, our system of government is based on the concept of checks and balances. Each branch of government is balanced by other branches so as to prevent the accumulation of too much power. One of the ways that happens is to speak freely about abuses of power.
We must ask, if someone's preferred political figure should not be criticized, what of political figures that are nonpreferred? That is, what shall we say about the truly horrible and hateful way Sarah Palin, George W. Bush, and Reagan are regularly treated?
Here's a taste of the other side of the street:
Talk about disrespect.
