WHAT IS GOD’S NAME? - By Lockley Bremner

The proper name of God has been hidden from the world, but is now being revealed to the "Sons of YHWH God” (Revelation 22:4). It has been said that the Old Testament is Jesus concealed, but the New Testament is Jesus revealed; I think we could change it to appropriately say, the Old Testament is the name of God revealed, and the New Testament is the name of God concealed. The Apostle Paul’s discovery of “the Alter to the unknown God” is once again relevant to our generation; “Therefore, the One whom you worship without knowing His name, Him I proclaim to you,” (Acts 17:23)!

Does God have a name? If so why has it been hidden from us? And if He does, how is it, that the name of God has been completely eliminated from the vernacular of modern civilization? The answer to the first question is an emphatic, yes! God does have a name, and His name is clearly revealed to us from the Book of Genesis to the New Testament, and man can know the name of God if he searches the Word of God with an open heart, and allows the Holy Spirit to give him understanding. God revealed His name to Moses on Mount Sinai as “YHWH”. The proper name, YHWH, called the Tetragrammaton, is used 636 times in the Jewish Tanach.

For many years I questioned why modern Bible translators never used God’s proper name, and why they substituted the title LORD, instead of using God's proper name? When reading modern Bible translations we see references to the supreme Deity as, The LORD, LORD God Almighty, The LORD of Hosts, God, or Almighty God, but we never see Him addressed by His proper name. The value of knowing someone’s name is relationship; there is no relationship if you don’t know their name. The omission of God’s proper name from the human conscience can only lead us to conclude that this is the greatest deception in human history. My discovery of this cover-up started me on a journey to find the proper name of God; THE NAME THAT IS ABOVE ALL NAMES!

THE KING OF THE UNIVERSE DEMOTED

In the early seventeenth century, translators were commissioned by King James to translate the Bible into English. The King James translators were committed to producing an English Bible that would be a more accurate translation; however, it is my contention, that the bible translators were afraid to assign a higher title to Jesus than that of King James of England. The translators were afraid a higher title for Jesus would offend the King so they demoted the King of the Universe to that of a Lord. Why would Bible translators substitute a title, “LORD”, instead of using God’s proper name? The word, “Lord,” is defined as an aristocrat, a nobleman, a member of the aristocracy. The Lords originated from the rich British landlords who were property owners in Europe. You have heard of the "House of Lords", it is made up of the rich elite aristocracy of England? The title of Lord is a lower level of hierarchy in English aristocracy than King, but the supreme title of King was exclusively reserved for his highness the King of England, whom they believed to be God’s representative on earth. The problem was they assigned the title of Lord to the King of the Universe which removed God’s Name from the subconscious of man. Even Martin Luther, the father of the Reformation, when translating the German Bible failed to use God’s proper name.

THE NAME OF CREATOR DISCLOSED

The original name of Creator God was disclosed to Moses at the Burning Bush in Exodus 3:15, “The LORD (YHWH) the God of your fathers, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob, has sent me unto you. This is My name forever, and this is My memorial to all generations.” In Hebrew, the name of God, YHWH, called the Tetragrammaton, was translated into English as LORD. This was a mistranslation. Instead, the Hebrew name YHWH, should have been translated into English as “YHWH”; In fact, the proper name, YHWH, called the Tetragrammaton, is used 636 times in the Jewish Tanach, but is translated into English as the LORD. In announcing His proper name to Moses, YHWH God affirmed His connection to the tribe of Hebrews by announcing He was the same deity that had made covenant with the patriarchs, Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. The name of God, “YHWH”, was established forever.

Moses being reluctant to announce the new name to the Israelites, since they only knew Him as, “God Almighty (El Shadi)” Exodus 6:3, asked YHWH God, “When I come to the children of Israel and say to them, ‘The God of your fathers has sent me to you’ and they say to me, ‘What is His name?’ what shall I say to them?” And God declared to Moses, “HAYAH”, “Thus shall you say to them ‘HAYAH’ has sent me to you.” “Tell them, YHWH God of your fathers, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob has sent me to you,” Exodus 3:14-15. In this particular statement God is speaking in the first person and calls Himself, “HAYAH”, but then commands Moses to tell the children of Israel that YHWH has sent me to you. YHWH would be the second or third person reference which is appropriate for us to use. For instance, I can refer to myself as, “I am”, but it is not proper for you to call me “I am”, you would say, “You are”.

The name HAYAH has been interpreted into English as, “I AM WHO I AM”, and most theologians define the name as,’ the eternal or self-existent one’. Modern Christians when asked, ‘What is the name of God?’ would commonly say, “I AM”. However, under closer examination the Hebrew verb hayah is an emphatic declaration; a better interpretation can be found at the creation, Genesis 1:3, when God decrees, “Let there be, (hayah) _ _ _and there was.” The Hebrew verb, hayah, is used by God as the creative power of the spoken word and reveals to us how something was fashioned out of His spoken Word. It demonstrates how substance was formed out of the invisible by the spoken creative word of the Creator God. The New Testament equivalent is found in John 1:1, “In the beginning was the Word (Logos), and the Word (Logos) was with God, and the Word (Logos) was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things were made through Him, and without Him nothing was made that was made;” the Logos being the Greek equivalent of the Hebrew verb Hayah.

Moses continued to question God, “Suppose they do not believe me or listen to my voice?” YHWH God replied, “What is that in your hand?” Moses replied, “A rod.” YHWH God went on to explain to Moses that the rod would be the instrument of His authority to show signs and wonders that would convince the naysayers. Moses and his brother Aaron went and gathered the elders of Israel, and they spoke to them all the words YHWH God had given them, and the bible says, “The people believed.” Afterward Moses went to Pharaoh King of Egypt and announced, “YHWH, God of Israel says, ‘Let My people go.” Pharaoh’s reaction to Moses’s declaration is interesting, and he remarks, “Who is YHWH that I should obey His voice _ _ _ I do not know YHWH.” This reaction is comparable to the response people of the world have when we declare the name of YHWH God to them; “I don’t know YHWH, why should I obey Him?” In fact, this is the same reaction Christians have when we declare the true name of God to them, “Who is YHWH”? The proper name of God is totally foreign to the modern day church.

MAKE HIS NAME KNOWN

It is my contention that the elimination of the name of God from modern vernacular is a carefully crafted scheme conceived by the master deceiver himself, Satan. One of the ways he used to hide the Name was through the traditions of the Jewish Rabbis; the traditions of the Jews to never utter the name or to let it pass through their lips conflicts with the Spirit of YHWH God. We are commanded throughout the word of God to declare the Name to the entire world. YHWH God charged Moses to make His name known to the nations, Exodus 6:2-8 “And God spoke to Moses and said to him, “I am YHWH”. I appeared to Abraham, to Isaac and to Jacob, as God Almighty (El Shadi) but by My name “YHWH” I was not known to them. I have also established my Covenant with them, _ _ _. Therefore tell the children of Israel, ‘I am YHWH’, I will bring you out from under the burden of the Egyptians, I will rescue you from their bondage, and I will redeem you with an outstretched arm and with great judgments. I will take you as My people and I will be your God. Then you shall know that I am “YHWH” your God who brings you out from under the burdens of the Egyptians. _ _ _ I am YHWH.” The charge to make His name known to the nations is a constant theme throughout the Old Testament and is contrary to the traditions of the Jews to never utter the name YHWH. A good exercise to become accustomed to the name YHWH is to read through the book of Psalms and insert the name YHWH everywhere the title LORD is used.

PRONUNCIATION OF THE NAME

(יהוה) The inscription on left is the Hebrew spelling of YHWH. Notice that the Hebrew language reads right to left, but when we write it in English it is left to right, so YHWH is the correct English spelling. The correct pronunciation of the name is the sound of the letters which are all consonants; Y or yod, H or hey, W or wah, H or hey, Yod Hey Wah Hey. The 22 letter Hebrew language assigned a numerical value to each letter, and in addition, a sound for each letter, and a meaning.

Y =10 = yod = the hand
H = 5 = hey = behold or look
W = 6 = wah = nail
H = 5 = hey = behold
The name = “Yod Hey Wah Hey” "Behold the Hand, Behold the nail"

NAMES HAVE MEANING

When the Holy Spirit unfolded His interpretation and the pronunciation of the letters in the Tetragrammaton to my spirit, it opened into a jaw dropping revelation. The tingling presence of the Holy Spirit flowed from the top of my head to the pit of my stomach. In my spirit Yod Hey Wah Hey said, “This is my name.” My first thought was, ‘could this really be, this is so simple, and how could we have missed this for so long’? My search for the name of God has been over an extended number of years, and I have read many teachings on the name; some by Hebrew scholars and some by learned theologians and teachers, but for some reason my spirit was never fully satisfied their explanations. The western mind and modern reasoning somehow missed the simplicity of the Spirit, and the heart of YHWH God. In the simple name, YOD HEY WAH HEY, He reveals His heart and redemptive love for all humanity, “BEHOLD THE HAND, BEHOLD THE NAIL.”
WE KNOW HIM BY HIS NAME

My Native American heritage also helped me in finding the simplicity of the meaning in the Name. The Blackfeet language is a compilation of phonetic sounds combined to make words and phrases, each phonic sound has a meaning or interpretation, whereas, in English the letters are just sounds of letters and names without meaning. Several years ago I was honored with my Blackfeet name, Ee Doh Moh. From our language to the English the interpretation of my name means, “He is the One Who Leads the Warriors into Battle.” My Indian name is not just a word; it is the definition of who I am. God’s name is rich in meaning and revelation, and as we are introduced to His name we are introduced to His character. God always begins a relationship (with a person or with a nation) by revealing His Name, (just as we do), which in turn reveals His Nature and His Attitude toward them. When God gives us a name by which He desires to be called by us, He is telling us Who He wants to be to us. When you become intimately engaged in His name it causes you to sing and worship, giving praise and glory to His name. This is why His name, Hayah is sung by every tribe of American Indians.

DO NOT ADD TO OR TAKE AWAY

The Hebrew language actually uses the letter V instead of the W, but does not pronounce the "V"; instead using the "W" sound. So instead of Vah they would say "Wah". For me personally I like to use the pronunciation “Wah”, Native Americans do not make the "V" sounds. I like to use the "W" Wah, just my personal choice. Notice the two small marks at the bottom of the larger Hebrew letters; these are vowel marks. The vowel marks were added to the Hebrew alphabet around the fifth century AD because the Hellenist western mind set could not comprehend a name that consisted only of consonants. How can you pronounce a name that does not have vowels? Therefore, they added the vowel marks to make the Tetragrammaton more palatable for the western mindset. That is where they derived hybrid names like Yahweh, Yahwah, Jehovah, Yahuah, and so forth.

The problem with these names is they do not reveal the heart of God or His plan of redemption. Western theologians have gone insane trying to get vowel sounds added to the name. It is so simple that the wise have omitted the name of God from the entire Bible and have forgotten the commandment, “do not add to or take away from the words of the Book” (Revelation 22:19, Deut 28:58). The English rational mind seeks to pronounce the Tetragrammaton as a whole word instead of pronouncing each letter, and this has resulted in hybrid, and inaccurate names. The simplicity of pronouncing the letters of the name, YHWH, Yod Hey Wah Hey, is profound, and confounds the rational mind because it not only reveals who God is, but also reveals the plan of redemption from the beginning to the end. Yod Hey Wah Hey is the Lamb of God that was slain from before the foundation of the world. When we see Jesus, how will we know who He is? We will know Him by the nail scars in His hands, Yod Hey Wah Hey.

GOD’S PROPER NAME

When I go to European style churches it is unbearably sterile to hear the preachers talk about "God." They use the noun, god, as if it is our Creators name. You hear them extoling the name "Gaaada" time and time again, but they have no clue He has a proper name. They use the noun, “God”, as if it is His name. Calling our Heavenly Father “God” is comparable to calling someone “Man” instead of using their proper name. When I address my friend Tom I do not say, “Hey Man”, no, I call him by his name, Tom. God is what He is; God is not His proper name. “YOD HEY WAH HEY” is His name, and that is what we should call Him.
THE OMISSION OF THE NAME

One can only deduct that early Christian translators acceded to the traditions of the Jews, whose custom was to not speak the name of YHWH, nor to allow the name to pass through their lips. It was their belief that the Name, YHWH, or Yod Hey Wah Hey, is never to be pronounced as it is spelled, and was too holy to be uttered by sinful humanity. The proper name, YHWH GOD, was eventually replaced in Jewish worship with Hashem or Adoni which are not actual names but titles or descriptions. During prayer, or when a blessing is recited, or when a Torah verse is read, the Four Letter Name is pronounced as Adoni. Adoni being the Hebrew title, “God who is Master of All” (Torah); at other times the Name is pronounced as Hashem which literally means, “The Name”; however, Adoni and Hashem are more suitable as titles for deity, not as a proper name. The omission of the Name, “Yod Hey Wah Hey” by the Jews, opened the door for the powers of darkness to undermine the religious traditions of man in order to conceal the name of God from his created beings.

YHWH OMITTED

In the transition from the Old to the New Testament we suddenly see the Name YHWH omitted from the writings of the Apostles. If the New Testament is Jesus revealed, we can appropriately say that the New Testament is YHWH God concealed. Are we to assume that the Holy Spirit neglected to use the Name, YHWH, or can we infer another more sinister plot perpetuated by a more sinister being? Under closer inspection, we can see that in fact, the Apostles did use the Name of YHWH God, and that Jesus emphatically taught them the Name, YHWH. The question is, who and when was the Name YHWH omitted from New Testament writing?

JESUS TAUGHT THE NAME

Jesus taught the Name, YOD HEY WAH HEY, to the apostles. Jesus thought it was essential to make known the Name to the apostles. In John 17:6, “I have manifested Your name to the men whom You have given Me out of the world.” John17:11, “Holy Father, keep through Your name those whom You have given me.” John 17:12, “While I was in the world, I kept them in your name.” John 17:26, “and I have declared to them Your name.” From these emphatic statements we can deduct that not only did Jesus disclose the Name, but He declared it to them, and He manifested it to them. I believe we can assume that Jesus regularly used the Name, YHWH, in His preaching and teaching. For instance, when Jesus was asked, “Which is the greatest commandment in the law?” Jesus replied, “You shall love the LORD your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind (Mathew 22:37).” This is a direct quote from Deuteronomy 10:12 and 30:6; a more accurate interpretation of this verse would be, “You shall love Yod Hey Wah Hey your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind.”

Jesus quoted directly from the original Hebrew Scriptures which would have used the Name, YHWH. Further down in the chapter Jesus asked the Pharisees, “How then does David in the Spirit call Him LORD (YHWH) saying: ‘The LORD (YHWH) said to my Lord (Adoni), sit at My right hand, Til I make Your enemies Your footstool (Matthew 22:44).” Again, Jesus quoted the Hebrew Prophets, “The Spirit of the LORD (YHWH) is upon Me, because He has anointed Me to preach the gospel to the poor _ _ _ To proclaim the acceptable year of the LORD (YHWH) (Luke 4:18).” These are just a few scriptures to prove that the Name, Yod Hey Wah Hey, was a regular part of Jesus’s teaching and His normal vernacular. The Name was so important to Him that He commanded the apostles, to baptize all nations in the name of the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit (Matthew 28:19). This brings us to the next question, and that is, did the Apostles use God’s proper name, and when was the name omitted?

THE APOSTLES KNEW THE NAME

The Apostles knew the name of God, YHWH. According to the gospels the Apostles were well schooled in the Name of the Father; as devout Jews they were all taught the name in the synagogue. After the Holy Spirit had descended upon the disciples in the upper room the Apostle Peter stood up, and under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit declared , “And it shall come to pass that whoever calls on the name of, Yod Hey Wah Hey, (the LORD, YHWH) shall be saved, (Acts 2:21).” Then still speaking under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit he says of the resurrection, “Yod Hey Wah Hey, said to Adoni, sit at My right hand, till I make Your enemies Your footstool, (Acts 2:3}.” Throughout the book of Acts the Apostles used the name of God, YHWH. In fact, the Apostle Paul, a student of Gamaliel, was well schooled in the Pharisaic tradition, and was intimately knowledgeable of the Name, and he makes reference to the Name in Ephesians, and declares that the whole Family of God is named Yod Hey Wah Hey. ”For this reason I bow my knees to the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, from whom the whole family in heaven and earth is named, (Ephesians 3:14-15).”

The Apostles were commissioned by Jesus Himself to go make disciples of all nations, and to baptize them in the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, Matthew 28:19. They were specifically commissioned to use the name, YHWH, in water baptism. When you are given power of attorney to act in someone’s name you don’t say, “I come in the name”. No, you use the specific proper name of the person who has empowered you; I baptize you in the name of the Father, Yod Hey Wah Hey, and the name of the Son, Jesus, (Yahushua), and the Holy Spirit, (Immanuel).

DISCLOSURE OF THE NAME TO HIS CHOSEN

In John 17 Jesus emphatically declared the name, Yod Hey Wah Hey, to the Apostles; whom, I believe we can deduct from historical records, carried the name into the entire world as they preached the Gospel. Jesus said “I thank you Father Lord of heaven and earth that You have hidden these things from the wise and prudent, and have revealed them to babes. Even so Father, for so it seemed good in Your sight. All things have been delivered to me by My Father, and no one knows the Son except the Father. Nor does anyone know the Father except the Son, and the one to whom the Son will to reveal Him (Matthew 11:25-27).” “All things have been delivered to Me by My Father, and no one knows who the Son is except the Father, and who the Father is except the Son, and the one to whom the Son will to reveal Him (Luke 10:22).”

It is apparent then, that knowing the Father by revelation is disclosed to His chosen by Jesus through the Holy Spirit, including His name. God always begins a relationship, with a person or with a nation, by revealing His Name, just as we do, which in turn reveals His Nature and His Attitude toward them. When God discloses to us a name by which He desires to be called , He is telling us Who He wants to be to us. We who are a party to the Kingdom of God have been shown great favor in knowing Him and His name. Knowing him then is not just a casual acquaintance, but an intimate relationship and initiation into the Godhead itself.

JESUS’ TRUE IDENTITY DISCLOSED

Jesus not only declared the name, YHWH, to the Apostles, but the declaration of His true identity was disclosed to the whole world by the Holy Spirit at His crucifixion. Jesus declared, “He who has seen Me, has seen the Father (John 14:9b).” Beginning, John 19:19, “Now Pilate wrote a title and put it on the cross. It was written in three languages, Hebrew, Greek and Latin, “JESUS OF NAZARETH THE KING OF THE JEWS.” The Chief Priest and Pharisees objected vehemently. Why? The first letter in each word of the Hebrew inscription spells YHWH, Yeshua Hanassarat WeMalik HeYudah. When they read the inscription they knew the identity of Whom they had crucified, YHWH. The writing in Hebrew follows:

Y – Yod – Hand - Yahushua - Jesus,
H – Hey – Behold - Hanassarat – of Nazareth,
W – Wah – Nail - WeMalik – the King,
H – Hey – Behold - HeYudah – of Judah.

Of course we know that the Hebrew letters were from right to left but that doesn't make any difference. The name also identifies Jesus as the God of Creation. Remember the letters interpreted are: Y - Yod - the hand, H - Hey - the or behold, W - Wah - nail, H - Hey - the or behold. So YHWH God, from the beginning, was the Lamb slain from before the foundations of the World, and He literally became, and physically manifested, Behold the Hand - Behold the Nail. There are many depictions of Jesus, and He even said, that many will come in His name, but we will know His true identity when we see Him by the nail scars in His hands and the piercing in His side.

GOD’S IDENTITY DISCLOSED

In the book of John verses 20:19-30, after Jesus had been crucified, and buried, the Apostles had gathered together in confusion and Jesus appeared to them. His first act was to show them His hands, and His side. This was not just a random act, but Jesus first action is very significant because through this act He disclosed His identity. Thomas was not with them, and when the others told him they had seen the LORD, he said to them, “Unless I see in His hands the prints of the nails, and put my hand into His side I will not believe.” _ _ _ “After eight days Jesus came and stood in their midst and said to Thomas, ‘Reach your finger here, and look at My hands; and reach your hand here, and put it into My side. Do not be unbelieving but believing”. Thomas declared, “My Lord and my God”? Why? Because when he saw the nail scared hands, and the hole in Jesus side he knew that Jesus was in fact Yod Hey Wah Hey. Jesus not only declared who He was, but manifested the name in His physical body though the scars in His hands, and feet. Jesus was not just a man; He was God in the flesh! This is how we will know Him! This is how we will identify Him! Many will come in His name, but we will know Him when we see Him, by the nail scars in His hands, and piercing in His side. This is YOD HEY WAH HEY, BEHOLD THE HAND, and BEHOLD THE NAIL.

CONCLUSION

One thing I have learned in my short time of walking with God is that no scripture is of any private interpretation, neither is revelation exclusive to one prophet. It has taken me years to come to understand a few truths about the Kingdom of God, and the revelation of God’s name, which has come in my later years, I know, is surely being revealed to others around the world. What I have shared with you did not come from someone else’s website, neither was it taught to me by man, but understanding came by revelation from the Holy Spirit. The proper name of God has been hidden from the world, but is now being revealed to the "Sons of YHWH God”. We are living in the time of the awakening of the Sons of God. It is my assertion that relationship comes through revelation, and revelation comes to a humble heart and a contrite spirit. We, the church, have not really known God, but have erected an image of God in our imaginations and form of religion not a relationship with God. Now we are getting the invitation to enter into the Fathers house, and God is anointing those to take part in the Godhead. Jesus said, ”They will put you out of their synagogues, yes, the time is coming that whoever kills you will think that he offers God service. And these things they will do to you because they have not known the Father (John 16:2-3).” This last verse indicates to us that not everyone will receive this message. This revelation will cause a great separation of the Sons of God from the established religious structure; even to the point of believers being killed. I count it all joy to know that His name is being written on the tables of my heart and in my mind, “Then I looked, and behold, a Lamb standing on Mount Zion, and with Him one hundred and forty-four thousand, having His Father’s name written on their foreheads,” and “They shall see his face, and His name shall be on their foreheads” (Revelation 14:1 and 22:4). This is my prayer every night before I drift off into dream land, “Father, write your name on the tables of my heart and in my mind.”

Prophetic Word

Jesus prophesied to Israel, “You will not see me till you say, blessed is he who comes in the name of the YOD HEY WAH HEY (YHWH),” (Matt 23:39). In this verse, Jesus predicted that Israel would be blinded from knowing God for a season, but the time would come that would be marked by a sign; messengers coming in the name of “YOD HEY WAH HEY.” When Israel hears the redemptive message of GOD’s name, “Behold the Hand, Behold the Nail”, they will make the association with Jesus and declare, “Blessed is he who comes in the name of Yod Hey Wah Hey”. Not only will they know that Jesus is their Messiah, but they will know He is the God of Creation and of the Exodus. Yes, when Jesus breaks through the clouds there will be a company of Sons standing on Mount Zion, “having His Father’s name written on their foreheads” (Revelation 14:1). “Now it shall come to pass in the latter days that the mountain of YOD HEY WAH HEY’S house shall be established in the top of the mountains, and shall be exalted above the hills; and all nations shall flow to it.

Many people shall come and say, ‘Come, and let us go up to the mountain of YOD HEY WAH HEY, to the house of Jacob; He will teach us His ways, and we shall walk in His paths.’ He shall judge between the nations, and rebuke many people; they shall beat their swords into plowshares, and their spears into pruning hooks; nation shall not lift up sword against nation, neither shall they learn war anymore. O house of Jacob, come and let us walk in the light of YOD HEY WAH HEY, (Isaiah 2:2-5).
