Transcript: If you are okay with having Muslim, Jewish, and Hindu students sit through a Christian prayer in a public school, and not okay with having Christian students sit through a Muslim, Jewish, or Hindu prayer, then it's not religious freedom - it's religious oppression.
How does one deal with the multiple levels of idiocy contained here? The person who wrote this, and those who posted it, obviously thought it to be a devastating argument.
Let's attempt to unpack this.
First, and most obviously, Christian prayer is illegal in public school classrooms. So no one is sitting through Christian prayers.
Second, preferring one's own religious practices is not religious oppression.
Third, religious oppression can only be perpetrated by a power structure, i.e., government. Individuals cannot oppress.
Last, few if any people are forced to sit through prayers of another religion in any situation.
What is the objective of this meme? It's not to promote religious expression, tolerance, or improve relations between people. Its purpose is to denigrate Christians, plain and simple.
