Letter to the editor: Electoral College system is the real election issue - by Jerry W. Calvert

Found here. Our comments in bold.
--------------

The letter writer is a retired Montana State University political science professor, which would be an indicator of why colleges are largely leftist indoctrination centers.
--------------

Jan. 6, 2021, was the darkest day in the history of American democracy since the Civil War (1861-1865). (Whaaat? After a summer of angry leftist mobs destroying businesses, attacking government buildings, lighting entire neighborhoods on fire, and even commandeering an entire portion of a major US city, it's the Capitol mob he has a problem with?

And that day was worse than
  • Pearl Harbor
  • The Kent State riots
  • The Watts riots
  • September 11th
  • Martin Luther King's assassination
  • JFK's assassination
  • The Dred Scott decision
  • interring the Japanese
We are already questioning the letter writer's thinking skills.)

A violent mob of angry Trump supporters attacked the U.S. Congress in the hopes of preventing the formal count of the electoral vote certifying that Joe Biden had indeed won the Presidency fair and square.

I am sick and tired of the big lie, “Stop The Steal” which will be front and center in the GOP drive to take back power in the 2022 congressional elections and beyond. Get over it! President Biden won the popular vote by 7,060,347 votes. At issue is really the Electoral College system which was designed in 1787 in part to placate the slave states. This was because of the notorious 3/5 compromise in which slaves were counted as 3/5 of whites in the census, thus giving the Slave South bonus electoral votes until slavery was officially ended in 1865. (Well, clearly a political science professor is not the same thing as a history professor. The ignorant Mr. Calvert doesn't even know about the 3/5 compromise. This provision purposely LESSENED the South's power by lowering the number of southern seats in the House of Representatives.)

When Trump asks Georgia’s secretary of state to find him just a handful of additional votes after two recounts he was on to something. (Mr. Calvert must be unaware the Washington Post issued a correction to their fake news story back in March. Trump did not say to find the fraud. Trump was not mining for votes.

But being a leftist, The Narrative is the important thing. Stick to The Narrative, no matter what.)

Combine Georgia’s 16 electoral votes with those of Arizona (11) and Wisconsin (10) and give them to Trump and he would have won the Presidency again with just 271 electoral votes out of the 538. In other words, the Electoral College system could have made Trump president a second time. (Yes, this could have indeed happened. But the Electoral College doesn't make anyone president, those who vote in the Electoral College makes someone the president. And that was the process by which Biden won, as well as every president before him.

Mr. Calvert seems to have intended to write about some issue with the Electoral College, but never got around to making his point: "At issue is really the Electoral College system..." What issue would that be, Mr. Calvert?)

His promised return in 2024 is premised on the objective fact that he can win the electoral vote again even though he would once again lose the popular vote by millions. That’s the “Steal” that needs to be stopped. (Mr. Calvert wants something stopped. But it didn't happen the first time. Trump didn't steal a single Electoral College vote. He didn't even try to. But Mr. Calvert poo-poos the steal when it is leveled against Biden. So it's perfectly reasonable the Trump attempted to steal the election, but it's not reasonable that Biden stole the election. We wonder what the distinction is in Mr. Calvert's mind, aside from the sole issue of partisanship.)
