Montana is now implementing electronic vehicle insurance monitoring:
Montana insurers are required to implement a web-services based system for the verification of automobile liability insurance. We have been working with the MT MVD to comply and begin LIVE reporting by the state deadline of January 27, 2012.
There are two processes to Montana MVD reporting:
1) Insurers are required to submit a complete Book of Business (BOB) to the MT MVD at least on a monthly basis.
2) How (random) MT Verification Works.
· Insurers will receive a request from the MT MVD to confirm active/inforce liability coverage on specified vehicle(s).
· If the isurer confirms liability coverage for the vehicle(s), they must send a ‘confirmation of coverage’ back to the MT DMV.
· The MVD may send additional requests if we are unable to initially confirm coverage
· Unconfirmed coverage requests may result in registration or other issues for the insured
